EEG

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a noninvasive test that records electrical patterns in your brain. The test is used to help diagnose conditions such as seizures, epilepsy, head injuries, dizziness, headaches, brain tumors, and sleeping problems. It can also be used to confirm brain death. An EEG is a non-invasive procedure that traces the brain’s electrical activity. During the procedure, electrodes are placed on the scalp to study brain function. An EEG might also help diagnose or treat the following disorders.
  • Epilepsy or another seizure disorder
  • Brain damage from head injury
  • Encephalopathy
  • Encephalitis
  • Stroke
  • Sleep disorder etc

NEUROPHYSIOLOGY LABORATORY

The Neurophysiology lab at Leo Hospital provides sophisticated diagnostic services for detecting a wide range of neurological disorders and conditions. We perform and interpret a complete range of neurodiagnostic tests that assist physicians in the diagnosis of various neurological conditions. These conditions include seizure disorders, headaches, brainstem dysfunctions, and other disorders affecting the nervous system. Diagnostic testing for Neurological condition:
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Nerve condition Study(NCS)
A nerve condition study is a medical diagnostic test commonly used to evaluate the function, especially the ability of electrical conduction of the motor and sensory nerves of the human body. Nerve condition studies are used mainly for evaluation of paresthesias (Numbness, tingling, burning) and weakness of arms and legs. The type of study required is dependent in part by the symptoms presented. Some of the common disorders that can be diagnosed by nerve conduction studies are:
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tarsal tunnel syndrome
  • Ulnar neuropathy
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Peroneal neuropathy
  • Guillan-barrier syndrome etc
  • Brachial plexopathy
  • Lumbar plexopathy
  • Diabetic neuropathies etc
